Malaysia sets election date on May 9
(VOVWORLD) -Malaysians will go to the polls on May 9 to cast their votes in a parliamentary election, which is said to be the biggest challenge for the ruling coalition administration in over 60 years.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee Hashim Abdullah said candidates, who must be nominated on April 28, will have 11 days for electoral campaigns.
Last Thursday, Prime Minister Najib Razak dissolved the parliament to pave the way for the general election. He will compete with 92-year-old former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, who left the ruling party in 2016 to join the opposition.
