Many countries commit to billions of USD aid to refugees in Syria and Iraq
(VOVworld) – Many countries have committed to donating billions of USD to support refugees in Syria and Iraq. Speaking at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Japan would provide 1.5 billion USD in emergency aid for refugees and for the stabilization of communities facing upheaval.

Abe said Japan was also preparing about 750 million USD for stabilization efforts in the Middle East and Africa. It will also allocate 2 million USD to support Libya, which has received more than 1.1 million Syrian refugees.
The group of 7 developed industrial countries and some European and Gulf countries committed 1.8 billion in USD aid to support refugees. Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly, Germany’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier said 19 countries had agreed to give the aid to the UN’s international aid organizations, which are facing serious financial shortages due to the crisis in the Middle East.
