(VOVworld) - Belgium announced tighter controls on its border with France on Wednesday amid fears of an influx of migrants.
Nine countries in Schengen now have border checks to deal with the worst refugee crisis since World War 2. Belgium’s Interior Minister Jan Jambon said Belgium is not setting up border checks along its entire frontier with France, just in areas close to the North Sea coast. As many as 290 additional police officers will be deployed along 40-60 km of border.

Slovenia said it will tighten its borders if European migration rules are not fully complied with. If that happens, the number of countries abandoning the Schengen rules will increase to ten.

Hungary called for a referendum on mandatory EU quotas for relocating migrants. The Western Balkan states agreed at a meeting in Vienna to take steps to substantially reduce the flow of refugees.
