(VOVworld) - The media has played an active role in human rights protection. Speaking at a workshop on communications, the press and human rights in Hanoi on Thursday, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Do Quy Doan, said that the press has promoted the implementation of various international conventions on human rights protection and anti-discrimination against women. The press has been a forum for the public to express their views on various political, social and economic issues for national development. Journalist Pham Van Khanh from the national daily Nhan Dan newspaper said: “The Party and State have paid particular attention to human right issues in Vietnam. Media communications on human rights should focus on the basic rights in economic activities, asset and land ownership. Laws regarding these issues are on the pipeline for amendments and drafting by the National Assembly.”

Vietnam has more than 780 press agencies with more than 60 radio and TV stations. Radio the Voice of Vietnam has more than 97% of national coverage and broadcasts to over 70 countries.
