(VOVworld) The Mekong Delta plans to produce up to 1.5 million tons of tra fish this year to earn export revenues of around 2 billion USD.

The target was set at yesterday’s conference in Can Tho province to review the region’s fish production and consumption last year and work out a plan for this year. Vietnam earned 1.8 billion USD from exporting 600,000 tons of tra fish out of a total national output of almost 1.2 million tonss. Delegates agreed that to achieve this year’s target, producers must be made to understand that Vietnamese tra fish must meet international standards of food safety and hygiene and be sold at competitive prices. Nguyen Huu Dung, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors, says the Association will introduce floor prices for certain major export markets, and promptly identify trade obstacles and conflicts.  “We’ll focus on links in the production chain, to ensure coordination between breeding, feeding, raising, and processing the fish.” Dung says.
