(VOVWORLD) - The Mekong Delta targets an average economic growth rate of 6.5% annually until 2030 under a master plan approved recently by the Government to develop the Delta into a key economic region.
The gross regional domestic product (GRDP) in 2030 is set to rise 2-2.5 times against 2021, with the proportion of agriculture, forestry and fisheries accounting for 20% of the GRDP, industry - construction 32%, and services 46%.
Key products will be fisheries, fruits, and rice, of which the proportion of rice will gradually decrease. According to the plan, the Mekong Delta will become "a sustainable, dynamic and highly efficient agricultural economic center of the country, region and world."
The plan aims to make the region an international brand for agricultural-rural tourism and eco-tourism, with Can Tho City and Phu Quoc Island set to become two international tourist centers.
The Mekong Delta contributes over 17% of the GDP, 54% of rice, 70% of fishery products and 60% of fruits in Vietnam.
