Merkel warns US, Britain no longer reliable partners
(VOVWORLD) - Europe must take its fate into its own hands faced with a western alliance divided by Brexit and Donald Trump’s presidency, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Sunday.

While Germany and Europe will strive to remain on good terms with America and Britain, the EU must fight for its own destiny, Merkel said, emphasizing the need now for close relations between Berlin and newly-elected French President Emmanuel Macron.
Returning from a G7 summit without a deal between the US and the six other major advanced nations to uphold the 2015 Paris climate accords, Merkel labeled the result of the “six against one” discussion “very difficult, not to say very unsatisfactory”. US President Donald Trump tweeted Saturday that he would reveal his final decision on the Paris climate agreement this week. Trump has previously said the US will bow out of the deal.
