(VOVWORLD) - The first-ever Miss Earth Vietnam was launched during a press conference held in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong on Wednesday.

The contest’s online preliminary will start from May, while an in-person one in Hanoi and HCM City from August. The semifinal is scheduled for November and the finale a month later.
The organisers of the Miss Earth Vietnam 2021 pageant will give awards to four winners during the grand finale, making the pageant the first Vietnamese contest to have four beauty queens.
The four titles Miss Earth, Miss Earth Air, Miss Earth Water, and Miss Earth Fire, will be awarded to the winners in line with the format of the Miss Earth pageant, according to Phuc Nguyen, head of the pageant’s organising board.
The beauty contest is scheduled be held in Lan village of Lac Duong district, about 40km away from the centre of Da Lat city.
The terrain at the site of the event proves to be a challenge for organisers as they want to encourage environmental protection activities throughout the course of the pageant, Nguyen said.
The Miss Earth Vietnam pageant is to seek Vietnamese representatives who will not only compete in the Miss Earth contest, but also take responsibility toward environmental protection.
Miss Earth represents one of four largest and most prestigious contests in the world, alongside Miss World, Miss Universe, and Miss International.
Nguyen Phuong Khanh was crowned Miss Earth in 2018, Vietnam’s best ever performance at such a major world contest.
