They include Myanmar’s President and State Counselor, Spain’s King, the Sultan of Oman, the Presidents of Slovakia, Egypt, Ireland, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan, New Zealand’s Governor-General and Prime Minister, and the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament. In their condolence message, ASEAN leaders said that: “As a highly respected leader who dedicated his life and career to his people, President Quang left Vietnam and our region a better place. We appreciate President Quang’s contributions to our ASEAN family.”

Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin and Chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko sent condolences to the Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, calling President Quang is a talented and steadfast leader who deserved the great respect and high degree of trust that his people and his international friends have given him.

In their letters of condolence, President Rodrigo Duterte and Foreign Minister Alan Peter Cayetano of the Philippines said President Tran Dai Quang was a true friend of the Philippine people and will always be remembered for his tireless efforts through his life to strengthen relations with the Philippines and other countries in the region.

In their messages, Australia’s Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and Prime Minister Scott Morrison spoke highly of the huge contributions President Tran Dai Quang made in the positions he held, stressing his important role in reinforcing bilateral relations with Australia and elevating ties to a strategic partnership earlier this year. 

US President Donald Trump said: “On behalf of the American people, I express my condolences to his family and the people of Vietnam. President Quang was a great friend of the United States. We will not forget his contributions to peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region or his voice for Vietnam to become a proud and independent nation on the world stage”.

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay sent a condolence letter to Acting President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, mourning the death of the exemplary leader, who made many important contributions to sustainable development in Vietnam.
