(VOVWORLD) - As of Sunday morning, the world has recorded 170.5 million COVID-19 infections. 3.5 million people have died.
The pandemic’s epicenter remains the US with more than 34 million infections and 608,000 deaths, followed by India and Brazil. According to the Indian Health Ministry, India has confirmed nearly 180,000 new cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest figure in the last 45 days. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Saturday that children who lost both parents due to COVID-19 will receive 14,000 USD from the government.
The Laos Health Ministry said Saturday that only 3 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, bring the total to 1,908.
South Korea’s daily virus tally has hovered above 500 for the second straight day, according to its Disease Control Agency.
