During talks in Rabat on Thursday, visiting Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives Habib El Malki also pledged to strengthen coordination at international forums, especially within the framework of the UN, the Francophone community, and the Non-Aligned Movement. Madam Ngan affirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance on the peaceful settlement of sovereignty and territorial disputes on the basis of respect to international law and the United Nations (UN) Charter, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. At a joint press briefing after the talks, Madam Ngan said: “We agreed to continue enhancing the exchange of high-ranking delegations, particularly between the two legislative bodies, and people-to-people exchanges to increase mutual understanding. Each meeting will focus on a selected topic.”

House Speaker El Malki said: “The Vietnamese top legislator’s visit follows a cooperation document the two parliaments signed last year. It proves that Vietnam attaches importance to relations with Morocco, considering Morocco a gateway to Africa. Meanwhile, Vietnam can help Morocco enter the ASEAN market.”

The same day, Chairwoman Ngan met Morocco’s Prime Minister Saadeddine Othmani who said that as Morocco is playing an increasingly important role in Africa, it stands ready to serve as a gateway for goods from Vietnam and other countries to enter Africa.
