(VOVworld) – The Myanmar government and eight ceasefired ethnic armed groups out of 15 have agreed on some post-ceasefire steps for adherence by both sides until 30 days after the signing of the Nationwide Ceasefore Accord (NCA), according to an official report Sunday.

It was agreed at the three-day first meeting of their Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee at the Myanmar Peace Center here which ended on Saturday. An official of the Myanmar Peace Center said setting the exact boundaries of each side’s territory and having monitoring mechanisms can reduce the risk of recurring conflict between signatories of the two sides. The mechanisms will allow both sides to deal with possible clashes during the transition period before the monitoring process comes into effect, he added. The committee set November 16 to hold their second meeting in Nay Pyi Taw. The Myanmar government and the groups have formed two joint committees, including Joint Ceasefire Monitoring Committee, which is to prevent recurrence of armed clashes, and the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee, which is to facilitate political dialogue.
