(VOVworld) - Htin Kyaw of the National League for Democracy (NLD), nominated by the Lower House, was elected Myanmar’s new President in the parliamentary election on Tuesday. Htin Kyaw, a close ally of NLD leader Aung San Suu Kyi, was considered the likeliest candidate to succeed. He is expected to sworn in on April 1
st.

U Myint Swe of the Union Solidarity and Development Party, Yangon region’s chief Minister and close supporter of former senior general U Than Shwe, who was elected first Vice President, was nominated by the military. The second Vice President was U Henry Van Htee Yu of the NLD, nominated by the Upper House.
