Vietnam and Hungary established diplomatic relations on February 3, 1950. In 2018, when Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited Hungary, they upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Partnership. Since then, bilateral ties have flourished with last year’s two-way trade turnover totaling 1.1 billion USD despite the COVID-19 pandemic and their trade becoming more balanced.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary Nguyen Thi Bich Thao said: “This trip is very important as it is a visit by a senior Vietnamese leader to strengthen the comprehensive partnership and the steady parliamentary relations between Hungary and Vietnam. The visit will promote economic and trade cooperation in the traditional areas such as education, justice, law, and culture as well as in some potential areas like tourism and labor."

Education-training cooperation agreements were signed during the previous visits of senior leaders of the two countries as Hungary has helped train thousands of Vietnamese officials and engineers. Hungary is now the EU country that grants the most scholarships to Vietnam.
During the upcoming visit, both countries are expected to sign an agreement on cooperation between the two parliaments and will boost cooperation in economy-trade-investment, health, culture, and education-training.
They will also push for negotiations, signing of agreements, and effective implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), and cooperation projects, while making full use of ODA Hungary is providing Vietnam.
Chairman of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee Vu Hai Ha said: “National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue will have high-level meetings with all Hungarian leaders to discuss measures to promote bilateral relations. The delegation will include members of the Government in order to strengthen cooperation in all fields. During this visit, the two countries will organize an economic, trade and investment forum.”
