NA deputies urge for early adoption of National Master Plan

(VOVWORLD) - The National Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050 is high on the agenda of the NA meeting in Hanoi on Saturday.

Under the National Master Plan, Vietnam is set to become a developing country with modernized industry, upper middle income, economic growth based on sci-tech, innovation and digital transformation by 2030.

By 2050, Vietnam is set to become a developed nation with high income; equitable, democratic and civilized society.

The National Assembly deputies underscored the importance of soon finalizing and adopting the National Master Plan to create a foundation for the sustainable national development.

Deputy Tai Van Ha of Quang Nam delegation insisted the importance of the plan with a long-term vision.

“It’s necessary to promptly approve the master plan based on which to develop prompt regional, provincial and sectoral plans in line with the Law on Planning,” said Ha.

To ensure its feasibility, lawmakers said that the National Master Plan should adhere to reality, match the potential, strengths, and advantages of each region,  locality, industry, and sector.

They stressed the need to revise National Master Plan in regards to land use and management, water resource management, the development of the marine economy, climate change adaptation, sustainable development, science, and technology.

They said issues concerning human resources, links between economic zones, growth pillars, and planning in border areas, people's life, tourism development, environmental protection, and climate change response should also be considered thoroughly. 

Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung pledged to make prompt revision to the plan.

He also elaborated on resources to implement the Master Plan, “The selected scenario has been carefully studied based on assessing the impacts and balancing resources in alignment with practical situation, meeting development needs, and strictly following the targets set by the 13th Party Congress.”

But to ensure the plan’s feasibility, Minister Dung underlined the need to uphold the highest determination, make full use of all the comparative advantages of different regions and the whole country as well as new opportunities and new trends to develop sustainably.

On Saturday afternoon, the NA discussed the implementation of the NA resolution COVID-19 prevention and control policies, revisions of the refinancing plans of localities in 2022, supplementation of the State budget estimate of foreign non-refundable aid in 2021, and the estimate of unused funds for regular operations of the General Department of Taxation and the General Department of Customs by the end of 2021.
