During the session, deputies  called for more detailed assessment of the EVFTA, especially in terms of the human resource, transparency in trade and investment and readiness to cope with major challenges. They agreed that the ratification of EVFTA would send a strong message of commitment to international economic connectivity and multinational trade in the context of rising protectionism. This would help diversify markets for Vietnamese exports and it was the right timing for Vietnam to ratify the deal to spur international integration and boost economic recovery given the Covid-19 pandemic.

Deputies also voiced support for the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

The same day, legislators discussed Vietnam’s entry into Convention 105, which is one of the eight fundamental ILO conventions and prohibits the use of any form of forced or compulsory labor. 

Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Dao Ngoc Dung, said: “Vietnam’s access to and implementation of Convention 105 originates from our interests to protect citizens and human rights as required by the Party and State in the fight against forced labor. As a responsible member of the ILO, Vietnam has always respected and promoted the implementation of international commitments. Vietnam has sufficient legal grounds and legal framework in line with Convention 105. The government will assign detailed tasks for ministries and sectors accordingly.”
