The whale worshipping festival is a spiritual cultural celebration of fishermen to show their gratitude towards the Nam Hai god (a whale) and pray for his help when they are in distress at sea, safe voyages and bumper hauls of fish.
Various activities were held during the festival, the 13th of this kind, including a ritual and a requiem for martyrs and the locals who sacrificed their lives for the national sea and islands.
On this occasion, Ben Tre authorities inaugurated the construction of Nam Hai Whale Tomb in Con Bung Beach.
