(VOVworld) -  Da Nang’s whale worshipping ritual was for first time reenacted at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Hanoi on Sunday as part of activities of a movement called “Vietnamese ethnic families in national construction and defense”.

The ritual is the most important cultural activity of Da Nang fishermen, who pray to the Whale Genie for bumper catches and favorable weather. Le Thi Thu Trang is from the Da Nang municipal Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism: "The festival has become a common religious and cultural activity of fishermen, reflecting their respect and excitement for fishing activities. The ritual activities bring fishermen joy, excitement and strong belief of a bumper fishing season ahead. It is also an opportunity for them to pay tribute to their predecessors."

The festival promotes patriotism and solidarity among Vietnamese ethnic groups.
