Most National Assembly deputies endorsed the government report on the socio-economic situation. According to the report, economic growth remains reasonable. 2015’s GDP growth is projected to exceed 6.5 percent, the highest growth in the past 5 years. The socialist-oriented market mechanism continues to be verified and has created a broad consensus among the public. But deputies said the report should also have pointed out shortcomings and unsettled issues related to public investment, the banking system, and enterprise restructuring.
The same day, National Assembly deputies contributed ideas for using surplus government bonds from renovation projects, upgrading National Highway 1A and the section of the Ho Chi Minh highway through the Central Highlands, reviewed implementation of national target programs in the period of 2011-2015, and made proposals for national target programs from 2016-2020.
The deputies agreed with the government’s plan to reduce the National Target Programs from 16 to 2 which will be the National Target Program on New Rural Development and the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction. They propose to review criteria in the new rural development program stressing the need to focus on improving rural people’s incomes and material and spiritual lives.
