She said that after 3 days of sitting, the legislators agreed with the Government’s draft decree on a number of special investment, finance, budget, and management allocation mechanisms in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho. This will provide a new momentum for Can Tho’s more rapid and sustainable development.

Chairwoman Ngan said the 6^th National Assembly session will not question selected ministers, but all cabinet members. The time for Q&A session will account for one third of the session’s time. She asked for the further adjustment of draft laws, including the anti-corruption bill. Ms. Ngan called for preparations for the mid-term votes of confidence for officials elected or approved by the National Assembly. She requested that preparations should be completed by September at the latest. 

Earlier the same day, the National Assembly Standing Committee discussed the revised draft law on anti-corruption.  Deputies agreed on the imposition of tax for added income whose sources are not justified by declarer. Nguyen Khac Dinh, Head of the National Assembly’s Committee for Legal Affairs, said: “The tax rate of 45% is groundless. Progressive tax is regulated by law. If a person has an income of 1 thousand VND, he or she should pay a tax of 450 VND. But an income of 1 million VND should not be subject to the same tax rate.”

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said more public opinions are needed to make the draft law on anti-corruption more persuasive.
