(VOVWORLD) -The Ministry of Health is proposing to the competent authority to designate one day of the year as National Organ Donation Day, Deputy Minister Tran Van Thuan said on Monday.

According to Thuan, Vietnam has over the years carried out kidney, liver, heart, lung, pancreas, and cornea transplants and has mastered these techniques.
To date, the country has performed nearly 9,000 organ and tissue transplants. In the last two years, more than 1,000 transplants has been done per year, ranking No. 1 in Southeast Asia in the number of annual organ transplants.
Outstanding progress has been made in the medical staff's professional qualifications and sense of responsibility, lighting up hope for revival for patients with organ failure.
