NATO completes upgrade of missile defense system in Romania

(VOVWORLD) - NATO has completed a long-planned update of its Aegis Ashore Ballistic Missile Defense system at the Deveselu base in Romania.

The update was in address of the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense system, and consequently did not provide any offensive capability to the Aegis Ashore missile defense system, NATO said in a press release. “The update is part of the United States European Phased Adaptive Approach to ballistic missile defence, which was announced in September 2009,” the press release reads.

Meanwhile, the US is deploying its newest anti-missile station in Redzikowo, Poland, which will be home to the Aegis Ashore Ballistic Missile Defense System (AABMDS) mission in the coming years and is expected to be completed sometime in late 2020. Located in the northwestern part of Poland, the Navy’s land-based missile defense system is a result of the 2009 initiative called the European Phased Adaptive Approach(EPAA).
