NATO pledges continued support for Afghanistan
(VOVWORLD) - NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said he spoke to Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani to reassure him that NATO will continue to support Afghanistan.

The security situation in Afghanistan remains deeply challenging, and requires a negotiated settlement, according to Stoltenberg, adding that NATO will continue to support Afghanistan with funding, a civilian presence, and out-of-country training
In recent months, the Taliban has stepped up attacks across Afghanistan, claiming control of more than 90% of the country, as the US-led international coalition completes its withdrawal of troops. Afghan government forces now hold just the big cities.
Moscow said on Tuesday that 1,000 Russian soldiers will take part in joint military drills in Tajikistan next week near the Afghan border. The drills from August 5 to August 10 come amid deteriorating security in Afghanistan as foreign troops withdraw.
