Floods, storms, earthquakes and other disasters forced at least 32.4 million people to flee their homes in 2012. According to the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC), Asia, Central Africa, and West Africa are the regions most affected by natural disasters. In the last five years, 81% of the people displaced were in Asian countries and in 2012, 8.2 million people in Africa lost their homes. India and Nigeria are the two countries most affected by natural disasters. There, homeless people number 6,9 and 6,1 million respectively. According to the IDMC, the number of people affected by natural disasters in rich countries in 2012 was 1.3 million people, including victims of hurricane Sandy.  Environmental experts say the number of victims of natural disasters will continue to increase.
