(VOVworld)- Nepal’s Prime Minister Sushil Koirala called on his citizens to donate blood to save the more than 6,000 people injured in the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday. More than 2,400 people were killed and more than 6,000 injured, according to reports on Sunday.During a cabinet summit Sunday, Prime Minister Koirala asked businesses to make available their food reserves and ordered pharmacies to maintain normal operations. Nepal’s government appealed for donations to the disaster relief fund established by the Prime Minister.

Numerous countries are gearing up efforts to help Nepal deal with this tragic natural disaster. On Sunday, the US said 70 American aid workers are headed to Nepal aboard a military transport plane along with 45 tons of aid, mainly search and rescue equipment.
The Russian Emergencies Ministry announced it was sending 90 rescuers, doctors and psychologists to help the Nepalese people.
Other nations including t Minister Counsellor of the Vietnamese Embassy in India The UK, France, Germany, Japan, China, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Algeria, Singapore, and Israel have all dispatched personnel to Nepal.
On Sunday, the European Commission disbursed emergency aid to Nepal worth 3 million euros. New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, and Spain have also promised support for Nepal.
