(VOVworld) – Vietnam is an increasingly important partner of New Zealand in the region, said New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Haike Manning in response to media on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and New Zealand. Relations between Vietnam and New Zealand have been enhanced significantly in recent years in trade, investment, education, development and defense, especially in economics, he added. Vietnam is New Zealand’s most active partner in the ASEAN and both countries need to assist their enterprises to better understand each other’s markets, towards sustainable relations. The ambassador said that bilateral relations will have more opportunities for development after the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement of which both countries are members is signed. Agriculture and education will open up many opportunities for cooperation.

In defense cooperation, both sides will continue focusing on training and exchanges of officials, teaching English and collaborating on UN peace-keeping missions. The two defense ministries have also held discussions on regional security challenges and cooperated at regional and international forums such as the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), and the ASEAN Defense Ministers’Meeting plus (ADMM+).
