The reception was followed by talks between Sang and Mateparae, in which the host spoke highly of the visit and said Vietnam wants to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of most potential. Sang added that Vietnam creates favorable conditions for New Zealand’s enterprises to expand their investment in Vietnam. The two leaders applauded socio-economic success Vietnam and New Zealand have achieved and promised to support each other at regional and world forums. They examined the second phase of an Action Plan to implement the Vietnam-New Zealand Comprehensive Partnership and a double taxation avoidance agreement. Initiatives were figured out to boost bilateral ties, particularly in trade and education. The two leaders witnessed the signing of several cooperation agreements.
The visit grabbed the headlines of Monday newspapers in Vietnam. Mateparae’s photo and bio appeared in the People newspaper, which carried an editorial saying the visit will contribute to a stronger Vietnam-New Zealand comprehensive partnership and also to regional and global peace, stability, cooperation, and development. The People’s Army newspaper reviewed milestones in bilateral relations and said Mateparae’s visit reflects his country’s respect and desire to promote bilateral cooperation with Vietnam in all fields and exchange notes on regional and world issues of common concern.
