(VOVWORLD) -President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has stressed the need to continue creating motivation and resources to develop Ngoc Linh ginseng, which he described as "national treasure" plant, so that this "national treasure" will facilitate the people's livelihood and bring new hope to Vietnam’s pharmaceutical and dietary supplement industry.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended a seminar "Turning Ngoc Linh ginseng into a national brand" held on Saturday in Tam Ky city by Tuoi Tre newspaper, Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee and Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee.
He praised Quang Nam, Kon Tum and many businesses that have invested in developing raw material areas and products from this rare plant.
The President called for efforts to boost a Vietnamese Ngoc Linh ginseng growing and processing industry with a target of billions of USD worth production and export value in the coming decades. To realize this goal, the industry needs support from the Government, ministries, localities and businesses. In addition, it is necessary to simultaneously "conserve" and "develop" Ngoc Linh ginseng to achieve higher values for both economic and health benefits.
President Phuc stressed the need to learn what South Korea and some other advanced countries have done with the ginseng industry to meet the diverse needs of the global market.
Ngoc Linh ginseng, a rare medical root containing 52 saponin compounds beneficial to one’s health, was discovered on Ngoc Linh Mountain on the boundary between central highland province of Kon Tum and the central province of Quang Nam in the late 1960s.
