South Korea’s Yonhap news agency quoted North Korea’s Rodon Sinmun daily as calling the drills a dangerous military act which will increase the confrontation on the Korean peninsula. The paper said North Korea will retaliate if similar drills recur.
The US, Japan, and South Korea staged a three-day defense drill last month to coordinate activities to detect and trace any firing by North Korea of ballistic missiles.
South Korea’s Foreign Minister Yoo Byung-se and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Tuesday had a telephone conversation about how to stop North Korea’s nuclear missile program. The same day Tillerson spoke by telephone with Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida.
