(VOVWORLD) -North Korea on Wednesday fired two cruise missiles into the Yellow Sea, from the coastal town of Onchon in South Pyongan province, a South Korean defense ministry official said.

The launches came as South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol held a press conference marking 100 days in power. This is the first time since January this year North Korea has launched a cruise missile, as the South Korean and US military kicked off their annual joint drills on Tuesday.
UN Security Council resolutions only prohibit North Korea from developing ballistic missile technology, so launching cruise missiles does not violate the resolutions.
