Northern Vietnam braces for strong cold spell this weekend

(VOVWORLD) -Northern localities are set to endure a cold spell this weekend considered the strongest of the winter, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

The cold spell that is to strike this Saturday and last for five days will cause temperatures to drop to below 10 degrees Celsius in low-lying areas.
Mountainous areas are likely to see rain, snow, and ice. The capital city of Hanoi is forecast to witness rain and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday, with daily temperatures to tumble to below 14 degrees Celsius. Central provinces will also record incessant rain and low temperatures as the cold spell moves further inland.
The elderly are advised to stay indoors to avoid the risk of a stroke, whilst residents of mountainous regions should refrain from engaging in outdoor activities and burning coal in closed rooms for heat.
Measures are needed to protect crops, cattle, and aquatic farms, especially those in mountainous localities.
