(VOVworld) – On Thursday, US President Barack Obama welcomed leaders from 50 countries to a working dinner to discuss threats to nuclear safety and open the 4th Nuclear Security Summit in Washington.

The aim of the 2-day meeting is to bring the international community closer together in coping with the global threat of nuclear terrorism.

The summit is also a forum for world leaders to reiterate their commitment to securing nuclear and radioactive materials and fighting nuclear terrorism.

The Vietnamese delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons towards eliminating all weapons of mass destruction. Vietnam underlined the importance of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, nuclear safety and security, and strongly condemned using nuclear energy to threaten international peace, stability, and security.
