(VOVworld) - Information ministers of members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) gathered on Wednesday to discuss challenges to the Islamic world posed by the IS.

Titled "Media Convergence for Establishment of Peace and Calm in the Islamic World”, the conference aims to strengthen unity among Muslims and portray the true image of Islam and Muslim nations, according to the Iranian president’s official website.

Addressing the opening, Iran’s First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri warned against the spread of Islamophobia by Western-backed extremists, calling on Muslim nations to employ media to counter it. He urged Islamic countries to focus their efforts on speeding up the peace process in the Middle East, including the territorial dispute between Israel and Palestine.
