Olympic torch reaches North Pole for the first time

(VOVworld) – The Olympic flame for the Sochi Winter Games began its journey to the North Pole on October 15th. Sochi organizing committee head Dmitry Chernyshenko said on Sunday that the Olympic torch was delivered by a Russian icebreaker dubbed “50 Years of Victory” of the Rosatomflot Fleet. He said the flame came to Moscow on October 7th and began its journey through 132 cities. During the 123-day trip, Russian astronauts will bring the torch into space aboard the International Space Station. It will be used to light up the opening ceremony of the Sochi Winter Games on February 7th next year.
