Over 1,400 dead and 6,000 injured after Haiti earthquake

(VOVWORLD) - Haiti’s Civil Protection Agency on Monday raised the death toll from Saturday’s earthquake to more than 1,400 and the number of injured to 6,000.

Thousands of houses, hospitals, schools, and churches were destroyed or damaged. Other hospitals are overloaded and short of medical equipment. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, as there are still many people missing.
Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry has declared a level 1 state of emergency throughout the country for one month, and said the government has sent support to the hardest-hit areas.
