(VOVWORLD) -President Vo Van Thuong on Friday evening attended a special art performance themed “Ho Chi Minh City continues writing the shining epic” as part of the Homeland Spring program for Overseas Vietnamese to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dragon.

Speaking before hundreds of Vietnamese expats representing the Vietnamese community from many countries and territories around the world, President Thuong emphasized that Vietnamese people living abroad, no matter what generation they belong and where they live, are "always a part of flesh and blood, an inseparable part of the Fatherland, always present in the hearts and emotions of the country and people of Vietnam".
“Over the past year, I had the opportunity to visit a number of countries and met Overseas Vietnamese. On the eve of the nation's traditional Tet, listening to people's sharing, I am so moved. I feel the Overseas Vietnamese’s desire and willpower to more forward, join hands and contribute to national development," he said.

Applauding generations of Overseas Vietnamese’s great contributions to national liberation, unification and development today, as well as in spreading Vietnam’s cultural values and willpower to the world, the President called on the Overseas Vietnamese community to continue to unite, believe in the nation's goals, and join hands to build a strong and prosperous Vietnamese Fatherland.
The two-day Homeland Spring program was jointly organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. In this series of events, the Vietnamese expats visited Ho Chi Minh City, connected with localities, and attended seminars.

On Friday President Vo Van Thuong and his wife together with overseas compatriots and city residents offered flowers at the monument of President Ho Chi Minh on Nguyen Hue street, paid incense tribute to President Ho Chi Minh and President Ton Duc Thang, performed the traditional carp release ceremony on the Kitchen God Day, 23rd day of the 12th lunar month, at the historic Nha Rong Wharf.
