Riyaz Malik, an Indian official in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir, said 35 trucks left for Chakothi on the Pakistani side of the border, with a similar number moving in the opposite direction. Trade across the Line of Control (LoC) operates on a barter system, where no money is exchanged.

Hostilities between the two neighbors escalated dramatically late last month after a attack in the Indian-controlled Kashmir on February 14 killed at least 40 Indian paramilitary police.

Last Friday Pakistan re-opened its airspace and released a downed Indian pilot. On Saturday Pakistan announced the resumption of railway transportation to and from India.
