Palestine Liberation Organization secretary general Yasser Abed Rabbo said at a press conference in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Wednesday that voting could take place two weeks or more after the draft resolution was presented. The resolution calls for the full withdrawal of Israel, the occupying power, from all Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, as rapidly as possible and to be fully completed within a specified timeframe, not to exceed November 2016. Since the collapse of the peace process with Israel in April, the Palestinians have been pursuing a new diplomatic path to independence via the UN and by joining international organizations.
