Paris to host 2024 Olympics

(VOVWORLD) - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Wednesday awarded the 2024 summer Olympic Games to Paris, who will stage the event 100 years after its last Games in 1924.

Paris has been mired in controversy over the investment involved. Pro-Olympics people believe this is a good opportunity for Paris to improve its infrastructure and enhance its image as one of the world’s top cities. Others say hosting 2024 the Olympics will be too costly and environmentally-unfriendly. Their main concern is that Paris has invested tens of billions of euro on the Grand Paris project, which will connect the city’s suburbs.
