Many of the voters expressed their strong opposition to China’s violation of international law and the high-level agreements between the two countries’ leaders by illegally placing an oilrig in Vietnamese waters. They also voiced their support to the Party and state handling of the issue. Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong said that China’s violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty is an important issue which needs to be settled flexibly. He said that Vietnam will continue its struggle on all fronts but will exercise self-restraint to avoid conflicts and war. He added that Vietnam persists in peaceful measures: “Our policy is to fight through peaceful measures in line with international law and the high-level agreements between the two countries as well as through negotiations, and even legal measures. We must be ready for any possibilities. In our world today, no one wants war or conflicts. So any word, any action must be considered carefully and measures must be well coordinated.”

Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong said that in any circumstance, the Vietnamese people will always want to maintain the friendship and solidarity with the Chinese people.

Regarding the fight against corruption, he said that this is a time-consuming struggle. He told the voters that the National Steering Committee for Corruption Prevention this year will establish teams to inspect corruption prevention in a number of localities.
