Party leader agrees to elevate Vietnam-Australia relations to new level

(VOVWORLD) - Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his entourage left Hanoi Sunday evening, concluding a two-day official visit to Vietnam.

Earlier the same day, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received Prime Minister Albanese, who is the leader of the Australian Labor Party, and stressed the importance Vietnam attaches to its relations with Australia and praised the strong, substantive, and comprehensive development of bilateral cooperation over the years.

He applauded the outcomes of Mr. Albanese’s visit, especially his talks and meetings with Vietnamese leaders and the important agreements reached during the trip.   

Mr. Trong said he agrees with the directions for developing bilateral relations, including elevating the relationship to a new level, enhancing cooperation, and improving the efficiency of bilateral agreement implementation.

PM Albanese said he wants to elevate the relationship between the two countries from the current Strategic Partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

He reiterated Canberra's view of the importance of creating a peaceful and stable environment in the region, respecting international law and the independence, sovereignty, and equality of countries, and supporting ASEAN’s centrality. Mr. Albanese affirmed the Australian Government’s and the Labor Party’s policy of promoting relations with Southeast Asian nations.
