(VOVworld) - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has pointed out the 3 major tasks for 2014, including safeguarding national sovereignty, protecting the socialist regime and maintaining an environment of political stability and peace for national development. Trong was speaking at a conference on Saturday in Hanoi to review military and defense performance in 2013 organized by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense:“It’s necessary to build a stronger army in terms of political ideology, organization and loyalty to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the people. The army should have strong political will and responsibility in fulfilling its tasks. Officers and soldiers should follow standards of morality and healthy lifestyle, while abiding by the law and disciplines and fighting any hostile forces’ plot of “peaceful evolution” in the ideological and cultural front”.

The Party leader called on the army to effectively implement the Party resolution on National Defense Strategy in the new situation. He urged the army to continue to wholeheartedly serve the people:“The army should boost mass mobilization work, coordinate with party committees, administrations and socio-political organizations to contribute to building stronger local political bases and implementing socio-economic development programs. It is necessary to help the people develop production, reduce poverty and improve their living standards, helping to build trust among the people, particularly those in target areas, border and islands. The army should be the core force in fighting natural disasters, and search and rescue efforts”.
