(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse will pay a state visit to Indonesia, an official visit to the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, and an official visit to Singapore from Sunday to Thursday.

The trip is at the invitation of President of Indonesia and President of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) Prabowo Subianto, ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, and Prime Minister of Singapore and Secretary-General of its People's Action Party (PAP) Lawrence Wong, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a press interview ahead of the trip, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong said this is the first visit by a Vietnamese Party General Secretary to Indonesia in early 8 years, and to Singapore in nearly 13 years. It’s a historic trip, the first time a Party leader of Vietnam has ever visited the ASEAN Secretariat, Mr. Cuong noted.
The trip coincides with Vietnam celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations with Indonesia and 30 years of its ASEAN membership, which marked the start of Vietnam's regional and global integration.
The trip demonstrates the consistent implementation of Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, and development, and the multilateralisation and diversification of foreign relations. It underscores the importance Vietnam attaches to its relations with neighboring countries in the region, particularly Indonesia and Singapore – its two key partners.
