This long-standing festival is a hallmark of central Vietnam’s coastal communities, particularly among Da Nang’s fishing villages.
The festival is rooted in the cultural and spiritual traditions of the coastal region, honoring the Whale God and reflecting the daily lives of local fishermen.
As the most significant annual event for coastal residents, the festival features ceremonies to pray for bountiful catches, calm seas, and favorable winds. Spanning three days, the festival includes traditional rituals and various cultural performances.
Nguyen Van Nhien, a fisherman from Xuan Ha ward, Thanh Khe district, Da Nang city, said: "The whale worshiping festival has been a long-standing tradition. We pray the gods, perform sacred ceremonies, offer incense, and pray for the well-being of Da Nang’s residents and for a safe and prosperous fishing season, ensuring bountiful catches for all fishermen."
