Philippine government, MILF end peace talks
The Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have concluded the 29th round of formal peace negotiation to build up a new political entity in Southern Philippines. In a joint declaration released following the talks, the government and the MILF agreed to meet again next month to further discuss power-sharing and other related issues. The joint declaration said the 29th formal exploratory talks was successful with both two sides “expressing confidence in wrapping up discussions on mechanisms towards the realization of a new political entity that would replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao”. The MILF of 10 thousand gunmen is the biggest splinter group all over the Philippines, which was founded in 1970s to establish independent administrations on Mindanao island and some others.
