PM celebrates Chol Chnam Thmay festival with the Khmer

(VOVWORLD) - A meeting to celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay, traditional New Year festival of the Khmer, was held in Can Tho City on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc reiterated the Party and State’s special attention to ethnic minority people including the Khmer. The Prime Minister praised the improved living conditions of the Khmer and call on them to uphold solidarity to overcome current difficulties. Prime Minister Phuc said: “The Khmer people, soldiers and religious dignitaries need to bring into play the unity tradition, strictly abide by the Party guidelines and State policies, and promote self-reliance to overcome difficulties and improve the living condition. You should participate more in patriotic emulation movements and promote traditional cultural identity.”

Chol Chnam Thmay is an annual traditional festival of Khmer people. In Khmer tradition, Chol Chnam Thmay plays as important role as Lunar New Year of Kinh majority people. Khmer people celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay with the hope for a safe and happy and lucky year.
