(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has sent his congratulations to all Vietnamese athletes, especially the men’s U22 football team and coach Park Hang-seo, on their achievements at the ongoing 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 30) in the Philippines. He wished Park and the national squad continued success to instill pride in Vietnamese fans.

Prime Minister Phuc also hailed the national women’s football team and coach Mai Duc Chung, who, he expects, will do their best to defend their gold medal. Vietnamese fans always stand by the athletes and look forward to their success at the tournament, Mr. Phuc said.

Vietnamese wushu artists and weightlifters won three gold medals on Tuesday. Wushu martial artist Pham Quoc Khanh picked up a gold medal by scoring 9.65, much higher than his rivals.
“I’m happy to have won. I have gotten up really early every day since the tournament began. Athletes’ health has suffered because of the temperature difference - hot outdoors and cold indoors. I didn’t perform well yesterday because of the pressure to win a medal. Today I just told myself to do the best I can. I owe my gold medal to my coach, my fellow athletes, my family, and the fans back home,” Khanh said.

Wushu artist Tran Thi Minh Huyen also won gold while weightlifter Hoang Thi Duyen set a new SEA Games record, clinching a gold medal in the women’s 59 kg event with a total lift of 210 kilograms, 95 kilograms in the snatch and 115 kilograms in the clean and jerk.
As of Tuesday noon, Vietnam had 23 gold medals, ranking second in the medal tally after host Philippines with 47 gold medals.
