During an inspection visit to a residential area for people to be relocated, Prime Minister Phuc said 1,800 ha of land must be available no later than October this year to start the first stage of the project. He said with an economy of 17 billion USD and per capita income of 5,300 USD, the southern province is a major contributor to the national economy.
“Public capital disbursement is urgent for localities including Dong Nai province. It will give momentum for Dong Nai’s development this year. Construction of Long Thanh airport including land clearance must be sped up. The 1 billion USD allocated for site clearance not only serves the airport project but also boosts Dong Nai’s growth,” he said.
Long Thanh airport will be built in 3 stages and is scheduled to be operational by 2025 after completion of the first stage. The 16 billion USD airport is expected to receive 100 million passengers and 5 million tonnes of cargo per year by 2050
