(VOVWORLD) - 77 people in the northern and central provinces had been reported dead or missing as of Thursday afternoon during widespread flooding caused by torrential rains over the past 3 days.

Yen Bai was the hardest hit. Property, crops, and public works were damaged, with losses estimated at around 5.2 million USD.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his deputies visited the affected areas to assess the situation. The Prime Minister directed local authorities to closely monitor weather conditions, reinforce the dyke system, evacuate people to safer places, and protect property.
Rescue workers have been mobilized to save lives and deliver food and other necessities to people in the flood-hit areas.
Meanwhile, tropical storm Khanun is forecast to strike the East Sea Friday night.
