Poland international conference focuses on East Sea disputes
(VOVWORLD) - Territorial disputes in the East Sea and maritime security in Asia were, for the first time, included in discussions of a Lodz East Asia Meeting (LEAM), held in Lodz, Poland. The 13th event of its kind this year focused on the power shifts in East Asia and prospects for developing Asian-European ties.

Nearly 50 scholars and researchers reviewed the recent noticeable developments in the East Sea, especially China’s consolidation, expansion, and construction of islands and rocks in the region, which have disrupted the status quo of sea and island structures. Participants agreed that China’s reclaimation and militarization seriously violates regulations on regional navigation and aviation security, safety, and freedom, and undermines the dispute settlement process. They added that only until claimants show their goodwill can East Sea disputes be resolved properly.
